In a step away from telling my brides how to prep for their special days, these unprecedented times have led me to tell you how to deal with your skin whilst in quarantine! Who’d have thought?
I have heard from a few people – and have experienced it myself – that lockdown has changed our skin, throwing it out of its comfort zone to the point that we are dealing with breakouts, dry patches and dull complexions.
You can use this time to change up your routine and try out some of those products you’ve been keeping your eye on but haven’t had a good excuse to buy…until now.
Whilst we’re all stuck inside (for the best), here are my tips for maintaining healthy, glowing skin.
1. Remove The Dullness
Exfoliation is an excellent way to brighten up a dull complexion and to smooth the surface of your skin. I would recommend a good exfoliation once a week, as you don’t want to irritate or harm your delicate skin. The Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator from Elemis is very gentle, using fruity anti-oxidants to leave you feeling revitalised.
2. Start With A Calming Cleanse
We know it’s important to cleanse our skin to remove makeup and remove impurities from pollution, but even if you’re not wearing cosmetics at the moment, cleansing is a great first step to eliminate excess oil, a build-up of dead skin cells, and to remove any toxins. Cleansing also gives you a great base for the rest of your skincare. Try the Superfood Cica Calm Cleansing Foam from Elemis for a fresh base which won’t leave your skin feeling tight.
3. Hydrate and Moisturise
I can’t convey the importance of hydrated skin enough; moisturised skin will give you a plumper, healthy glow. A cult favourite, try Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream, a rich formula to give you a dewy finish.
4. Masque Your Worries
In these turbulent times, stress may show on your face. Indulge yourself with a beautiful, rich creme masque once a week to help soothe, hydrate, and reduce signs of worry. The Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque from Kiehl’s should be left on for five minutes and then massaged into skin before rinsing away.
5. Water and Sleep!
Whilst you may not need to be rushing around and going to bed super early if you’re not having to get up in the morning, it’s still so, so important to get enough sleep, and supplement this with more water than you think you need – your body will thank you for it! Before bed, apply Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate – just a few drops will replenish skin and leave it feeling younger-looking and restored by morning.
6. Refresh Your Skin
If normal water isn’t enough for your skin, give it a drink throughout the day! The Elemis Superfood Kefir-Tea Mist can be used to prep and set makeup, but is also great to spray on the skin anytime you feel like you need a little freshen up.
7. Relax Your Mind
I know these are tough times for everyone, we’re all in the same stressed boat just trying to get by. Did you know though, that stress releases a hormone called cortisol, which can be detrimental to skin and lead to inflammation and acne? Whilst lovely products are great, try some relaxation, self-care techniques such as yoga, meditation – or perhaps just finding a quiet space to curl up with a good book!
Although things are uncertain at the moment, I am still here for you if you would like to enquire about your upcoming wedding. Feel free to get in touch here!
